Many Mac users may already be aware of this, this entry is not a news entry. If you're not already aware, Value today released Left 4 Dead 2 for the Mac. This is a fantastic game I've had the pleasure of playing for a long while now on my PCs, and now I can play it on my Mac without restarting into Windows.
I was skeptical at first. I've read the benchmarks: thanks to driver issues games play much worse under Mac OS X than under Windows using the same hardware.
To my surprise, when I fired up L4D2 on my Mac, the game was very playable. Set to medium settings (picture still looks great) at 2560x1440 and the gameplay is very smooth. I'm very pleased. Of course, it helps that I just received my new iMac with the Radeon 5750.
I think this is a very good sign. Playing at that massive resolution very well on a Mac means in a few years, Mac gaming can be as good as on a PC. Probably better as you won't have to fight against Windows. Apple and Valve have done great work already, and it has only been a few months.
Thanks for keeping the zombies coming guys.
